Consumer Packaged Goods

Consumer Packaged Goods (or CPG) are products that are sold quickly and at a relatively low price. Examples are beverages, packaged foods, toiletries, fruit, vegetables, and over-the-counter drugs. Another word for these type of products are Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG). The reason that these kind of consumer goods have a short ‘shelf life’ is either because of the high consumer demand or because the products deteriorate rapidly. Profit margins on these types of products are usually very low. However, since CPGs are being sold in large quantities, the cumulative profits on these products can be substantial.
